The Cornwallis Project 4-H Club is helping to fight hunger in Nova Scotia with its participation in Farm Credit Canada’s ‘Drive Away Hunger’ program.
Three tractors and trailers will drive through the province starting at Annapolis Royal, Amherst and Antigonish collecting food and cash on their way to a rendezvous in Halifax at the Maritime Fall Fair Oct. 16, where they hope to be able to present Feed Nova Scotia with 100,000 pounds of food.
Farm Credit Canada, a major supporter of 4-H as well, has raised almost 1,000,000 pounds of food for Canadian food banks since 2004. Each year the drive takes place in two to three different provinces. This year is the first time in which it has taken place in Nova Scotia.
The Club challenges other Port Williams community groups and residents to support this cause by dropping off cash and/or food at the Village Office (hours 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) up to Oct. 14. Club members will deliver the contributions to tractor and trailer as it passes through New Minas on the 15th.
The Port Williams Seniors’ Club started its Fall season Tues., Sept. 16 in the Multipurpose Room of the Community Centre (rear entrance). We are looking for new members, seniors from Port Williams and area, and welcome anyone from the Greenwich area.
