Hospital offering more parking spaces

There are now more parking spaces for patients, visitors and staff at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Work was recently completed on over 100 new parking spaces in the rear, south side parking lot at the hospital.

The new parking includes seven new accessible spaces for persons with disabilities. The work also saw the successful relocation of the helipad in order to accommodate the new parking spaces.

“This expansion will address the parking pressures we have had at the Yarmouth Hospital for some time now,” said Anthony Muise, vice president of operations for South West Health.

Now that the new parking spaces are complete, there will be a renewed emphasis on parking enforcement at the hospital. The enforcement will target cars parked in no parking areas and in spots designated for other purposes.

“Enforcing our parking, and encouraging drivers to park only in appropriate, designated areas, means better access for everyone,” said Muise.

Starting Monday, Sept. 29, drivers who park illegally, in no parking areas will find a warning on their windshield. Drivers who persist in parking where they shouldn’t may also be ticketed and / or towed away at their own expense.

Parking lot lines have been re-painted, making it more clear what is a designated parking spot, and what is a no parking area.
