Cyber threats, a set fire and property damage
Yarmouth Town RCMP report
During the period of Aug. 23 to Sept. 7, the Yarmouth town RCMP detachment received 139 calls for service. This included six complaints of causing a disturbance, 17 false alarms, five property damage, four traffic collisions, six theft under $5,000, five Liquor Control Act, six drunk in a public place, four 911 hang-ups, three Mental Health Act investigations, nine assaults, one sexual assault investigation, six Child Welfare Act investigations, one Coroners Act investigation, four break and enters into residences, 12 other Criminal Code.

The following is a summary of some of the calls for service.

•Aug. 23, 8:59 a.m., received a complaint of property damage on Chestnut Street reporting that a vehicle’s tire was slashed overnight. While officers were interviewing the complainant they noticed a neighbour’s tire was also slashed.

•Aug. 24, 12:03 a.m., noise complaint from Tooker Street, saying that young people were smashing bottles and making noise. Officers made a patrol, no one located.

•Aug. 24, 1:41 p.m., received a complaint of a stolen blue and silver mountain bike. The bike, which was not locked, was stolen outside the Yarmouth Mall earlier in the day.

•Aug. 25, 10:57 p.m., single motor vehicle collision, Main Street and Starrs Road, a vehicle had flipped on its side, no major injuries.

•Aug. 26, 1:25 a.m., complaint of a noisy party on Pleasant Street. Patrol made, offices spoke to occupants of the residence, the issue was rectified.

•Aug. 26, 2:26 p.m., received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision at Main and Elm streets, two vehicles involved, no injuries.

•Aug. 26, 5:34 p.m., 911 misdial from the Colony Harbour Inn. The person was trying to dial room service.

•Aug. 27, 1:23 a.m., officers, assisting the Yarmouth rural detachment, responded to a 911 complaint of prowlers on a property on the Ohio Station Road along Route 340. Patrols were made, no one was located.

•Aug. 27, 11:22 a.m., complaint of a suspicious person in a sleeping bag in the Sobeys parking lot. Officers found a male in a sleeping bag, not from the area, who said he was simply trying to get some sleep. The person was asked to move along.

•Aug. 27, 5:14 p.m. police were contacted with respect to a complaint of threats being received via text messaging for a period of time. Since the police were able to trace where the messages were coming from, the owner of the text-messaging device was spoken too and dealt with accordingly.

•Aug 28, 5:39 a.m., officers located a female who was staggering on Main Street near Forest Street. The woman, who was heavily intoxicated, was arrested for being drunk in a public place and released the same day.

•Aug. 30, 8:55 a.m., received a report of an overnight break and enter to a residence on Argyle Street.

•Sept. 1, 12:59 p.m., received a report of an assault taking place at a workplace on Water Street. A suspect was spoken to and arrested and is due to appear in court in November.

•Sept. 2, 11:50 a.m., report from Chebogue Fisheries on Cliff Street that overnight a vehicle had been damaged in their compound. Window had been smashed, glove compartment pulled out, nothing was stolen.

•Sept. 3, 6:33 p.m., received a complaint on Albert Street of a small off-highway vehicle driving back and forth, making lots of noise. A patrol was made and a person was located on a pocket bike traveling at a high rate of speed on East Street and not wearing a helmet. The person was stopped, the bike had no licence plate or insurance and was seized.

•Sept. 5, 3:30 p.m., report from Thurston Street that a bicycle was stolen. Bike is a red Giant mountain bike, 26-inch frame.

•Sept. 7, 1:19 a.m. along with the Yarmouth Fire Department, the detachment responded to a complaint of a set fire in the foyer of an apartment building on Cumberland Street. A pile of flyers had been set on fire. No damage. The owner and resident were able to put out the fire quickly. Still under investigation.

•Sept. 7, 3:57 a.m., received a 911 call from an occupant of the Lakelawn Motel saying there was a suspicious banging sound coming from outside the motel unit. The officers suspected it was a branch hitting the wall.
