Windsor acclaimes a new mayor
Windsor already has a new mayor eager to take over the leading position in town.
No one running against him, Paul Beazley has been acclaimed into office. With a background in business, four years served on town council, and dedication to various organizations in Windsor, he plans to lead growing developments in the town’s future.
“It feels tremendous to know I’m going to be able to represent the citizens of this town,” Beazley said. “I grew up here… I want to give back to the community as much as I can.”
Also, looking to contribute to the town on council this year are new council candidates John Bregante, Kim Burns and Dave Seeley. Liz Galbraith and Laurie Murley both re-applied for the council positions as councilors. Andy Kirk and Glenn Robinson opted out.
The citizens of this town are looking for changes and a fresh face, Beasley said. “My background is in business and I’ll bring this business background to the mayor’s chair.”
The top priority is to grow the tax base by controlling the money spent, because it doesn’t make sense to have revenue shortfalls and decreasing taxes, Beazley said. “However, I will do everything possible to not increase taxes… and to keep the business taxes down.
“I have a bit of a soft spot for the small businesses in town,” Beazley said. “We have to promote this town … and work towards future developments. Windsor is a growth area.”
People are attracted to this spot because it is rich in history, it has a great advantage in location as it is so close to Halifax and it’s a good place to raise a family, Beazley said. “It’s time to build on the pride and identity of this town… so people want to come here.”
This includes being more aggressive to fix up some eyesores and building on the identity of Windsor as the birthplace of hockey, with or without the approval of Hockeyland, Beazley said. “If it passes, fantastic. If not, we still need to work towards this identity.
“Also, I want to thank Anna Allen for her 16 plus years of dedicated service,” Beazley said. “Her time, effort and dedication should be applauded… I wish her all the best.
“And, I encourage citizens to get out to vote on Oct. 18,” he further added. “It’s a good future to build on – I’m very excited about it.”
