Klein takes arts approach to election
Well-known Canadian activist and writer Naomi Klein will be speaking in Wolfville Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Festival Theatre.

The author of The Shock Doctrine and No Logo, Klein is an international, bestselling author. No Logo sold over one million copies and was translated into over 28 languages.

In 2004, Klein and her husband, Avi Lewis, released a documentary film, The Take, about factory workers in Argentina who took over the closed plant and resumed production, operating as a collective.

With her 2007 book, The Shock Doctrine, Klein suggested nation-wide shocks, such as the Falklands war in England or Sept. 11, 2001 in the U.S., are created with the intention of being able to push through unpopular reforms in the wake of the crisis.

With $60 million slashed from cultural programs since 2006, Klein is currently lending her support to a new initiative, the Department of Culture, a loose coalition of Canadian artists using their creative skills to try and unseat vulnerable Tories in the upcoming election.

Klein is also speaking in New York, Oregon, California, Lethbridge, Regina, Toronto and Halifax
