Residents of Bridgetown were seeing stars Monday -- starfish that is.

Dozens of the five-pointed creatures, fresh from the ocean, were dropped on steps, lawns, driveways, porches, and sidewalks when residents woke up.

The Spectator's count as of Monday evening totaled more than 30 starfish -- and nobody seems to know where they came from. One resident had 17 starfish ringing his vehicle.

Resident Tracy Forbes collected a number of photographs, and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans picked up two samples at town hall.

At Jim and Jo Sheild's house, a starfish was on the sidewalk and another on the veranda. She doesn't know where they came from but doesn't think it's that funny even if it is a practical joke. Sheilds said the creatures looked like they had just come from the sea and to kill them to perpetrate a prank isn't right.

Most of the starfish were about 10 inches in diameter.
