Mayor John Prall acclaimed, school board seat up for grabs

Berwick’s mayor will continue to be John Prall, acclaimed by the nominations deadline Sept. 9.

Prall was first elected as a councillor in 1988, and has been mayor for the past 11 years.

Councillor candidates include incumbents Anna Ashford-Morton, Donald E Clarke, Mike Trinacty and Gary W Whittier.

Danny Lecky, a councillor in the last term; one-time candidate Anthony L Morse, former long-time councillor Michael J Munday and newcomer Marianne Woodworth are also offering.

There will be an election for school board representative, as incumbent Dwight Johnson faces Barry Corbin and Mike Mason for the seat covering the town and communities from Somerset to Coldbrook.

The area’s African Nova Scotian school board representative was acclaimed: Peter Cromwell will continue in office.

Hélène Lavigne was also acclaimed as local representative for the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP).

Berwick will hold elections for council and school board October 18, and is one of a few municipalities in the province trying the computerized Intelivote system for the first time. Polls will open on-line up to a week before October 18, and all registered voters will receive a PIN to access the voting system. Traditional polls will also be held at the town hall.
