Kraft is hosting a celebration in Margaretsville later this month.
Everyone is invited to the community barbeque on September 28 from noon until 3 p.m. at the Margaretsville Hall Community Centre to help celebrate with the summer sweepstakes winners.
Earlier this summer Sherry Nichols, Pat Lawson and Erla Ritz entered the Margaretsville Community Hall in the Kraft Summer Savour contest, an initiative aimed at helping communities to improve their parks and recreation facilities.
Kraft Canada recently announced that Margaretsville would receive a $50,000 grant to upgrade its community hall.
"It's so exciting, it's unbelievable," said Sherry Nichols. "We’d raised enough money to replace the siding, but now so much more is possible."
A new kitchen and appliances, and flooring top the fixer-up list to repair the hall. Eventually they hope to keep the hall open year-round, offering activities for people of all ages.
Nichols said she expects representatives from Kraft will present the cheque at some point during the afternoon. Great food and entertainment are also on the line-up, that includes a bouncy castle and a magician.
Nichols said that volunteers with the community hall association have already been replacing exterior siding and shingles, but more upgrades are now possible thanks to a windfall from a Canadian company.
"Community halls serve as a focal point for recreation bringing individuals and families together while encouraging a healthy lifestyle," said Dino Bianco, president of Kraft Canada. "We congratulate Margaretsville on its compelling entries and on winning the renovation grant."
This contest closed on July 31 and was open to all residents of Nova Scotia. Entrants submitted a 500-word essay and three photos. They were judged on community spirit, overall need and originality.
