History comes to life as village commissioners re-enact first meeting
New Minas 40th anniversary celebrations continue
History came to life at the beginning of the Monday, Sept. 8 meeting of the New Minas Village Commission as current commissioners re-enacted the first meeting of the commission, which took place Jan. 23, 1969 in the office of commissioner Willie Smith. Commission Vice Chairman Dale Pineo (left) played original commissioner Willie Smith. Commissioner Dean Hatt played original commissioner Bill Lockhart. Chairman Dave Chaulk stood in as original chairman Ken Barron, who was in attendance for the re-enactment, and Commissioner Maynard Stevens, chairman of the Village’s 40th anniversary committee, served as narrator. The re-enactment was held as part of ongoing celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of New Minas. Businesses in the village that were established in 1968 and those that have evolved from businesses established on or before that date were honoured at the meeting as well. They include Fritz’s, H.C. Turner’s Radiator Service, Milne Court Petro Canada, Kia Land, Vail’s Dry Cleaning, Saunder’s Tartan Shop, Dairy Queen, Fairlane’s Bowling Alley, Greensboro Inn, Ultramar, Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, A.C.A. Cooperative Limited, A&W, Valley Credit Union, Ken MacKinley’s Auto Body, Basic Auto Sales, Quality Concrete and Archie’s Welding.
