Shellfish closure in Annapolis Basin
Dartmouth, N.S. – Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public that the harvesting of bi-valve and gastropod molluscs for recreational or commercial purposes in Annapolis Basin, N.S. is closed effective Sept. 8, due to an increase in levels of bacteriological contamination that has an adverse effect on the shellfish growing areas within the Annapolis Basin.
A line drawn from grid reference 285928E 4951251N (entrance to Digby Gut) to Port Wade to grid reference 289899 E 4946730N (to Deep Brook) will be closed effective immediately.
The area from inside a line drawn from grid reference 285928E 4951251N (Port Wade) to grid reference 289899 E 4946730N to (Deep Brook) remains opened which includes Thornes Cove area and Cornwallis area.
Bivalve and gastropod molluscs are shellfish with two shells, and includes; oysters, clams (soft shell clams, razor clams, surf clams) mussels, scallops and quahogs (bay and ocean) and whelks.
