New provincial discus record for Larade at Corn Boil Open

A new provincial discus record by Launchers Athletics charter member Nicole Larade highlighted her club’s final throws competition of the season, the second annual Corn Boil Open at the Launch Pad in Port Williams.

Larade’s best throw of 40.45 metres Aug. 30 was not only a new personal best for the New Germany native (and third-year Acadia student), it broke her own previous senior women’s provincial record of 39.58 set in 2006.

Other notable performances at the season-ending meet, which featured throwers of all ages, included Keevan Veinot (atom division) and Meghan McLean (peewee division), who captured gold medals in the shot put, discus and javelin.

Edmund Wohlmuth (atom division), Geoffrey Myatt (juvenile division) and Chelsea Whalen (juvenile division) took home two gold medals apiece.
