The MainStream Wrestling Entertainment (MSW) event held in Windsor the evening of Aug. 29 drew a small but loud crowd of fans pinned on the idea of a good fight night.
MSW did not disappoint. Alexander Saint pounded out “Mean” Mickey McFinnigan, “Hard-Nosed” Haggerty stole a match from Killer Bee and “Commercial Free” Sexton Phoenix came back to be victorious after taking a beating from “The Iron Tiger” Mike Fraser.
Five-time Atlantic Canadian champion “X-Ray” Kyle Kruze was on fire throughout the event. He once again defended his title successfully, this time against “Below the Belt” Bobby Knuckles, and performed well to win in the final three-on-three tag team elimination match alongside Killer Bee and Alexander Saint. The trio squared up against Knuckles, McFinnigan and Haggerty.
Killer Bee was another obvious crowd favourite during this event. He believes it’s his superhero persona and mysterious mask that attract people to his honorable character.
“In matches, it’s important to not take anyone lightly and to always keep going hard,” Killer Bee said. “And to everyone in Windsor, Nova Scotia, keep on buzzin’.”
Like aggressive dinner theatre
Beulah Wilson’s a fan and she said this is one of the only places she can go to have fun. She can’t wait until October when the MSW crew is scheduled to return again.
“I really like MSW,” Wilson said. “I think it’s the best thing to ever happen in Windsor.”
MSW owner Devin Chittick, who wrestles as “X-Ray” Kyle Kruze, said it’s the drama, the costumes and the unique characters that keep people interested in wrestling. “It’s like aggressive dinner theatre or like a comic book come to life.
“I created MSW because I’ve been a wrestling nut since I was seven and I haven’t really grown up yet,” Chittick said. “And I think kids and teens live their dreams through us.”
Match-wise the show was great from top to bottom, but the crowd numbers were lower, Chittick said. “But we always put on our best show whether there are 10 or 500 here.
“That way, people can go back and tell all their friends they missed out,” Chittick said.
Wrestling is unlike anything else, Chittick added. “Don’t knock it ‘til you see it in person.”
