Hustling up some goodies for Queens General Hospital
The 28th annual Hospital Hustle is back for another year, with 20 tables of goodies.
The Hospital Hustle will take place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at Queens Memorial Arena.
“I think we’ve got a real terrific selection of first, people to work the hustle and then materials,” says Hospital Hustle committee chair, Betty Manthorne.
Many people have donated items from their yard sales, which Manthorne calls a “mixed blessing.”
Dr. Lafavre will return with his motorcycle, she adds. People can purchase tickets for three rides in the sidekick throughout the day.
“People were very pleased with that last year,” Manthorne says.
She adds good things are coming in for the silent auction and toonie auction.
For the toonie auction people can “buy a card for a toonie and they get 25 tickets; now that’s quite a bargain,” she says. Then people can use the tickets to win items.
Last year’s Hospital Hustle raised $20,000 and Manthrone is hoping for the same, if not more this year.
Funds raised will go towards a pediatric scale and a pulmonary function machine, which treats asthmatics and those with lung disease at Queens General Hospital.
“We would like people to know that there’s going to be a closing date for bringing stuff in,” states Manthorne.
Books, toys and items for the white elephant table are to be in by Sept. 3. Call Betty Manthorne at 354-3724 or Gloria Meers at 354-4730 to arrange a drop off.
They will also need someone to take leftover items off their hands once the Hospital Hustle is over, she adds.
Anyone wanting to volunteer must first contact her, says Manthorne.
Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children.
