Motocross rider injured during show

RCMP and paramedics were quick to respond to the aid of a young motocross rider taking part in the Extreme Motocross Show behind Sunset Pub on the first evening of the Wharf Rat Rally.

Greg VanNorden, a stunt rider with two years’ experience in the sport, was injured Friday night when he crashed at the end of a jump.

VanNorden had completed a successful jump off the ramp but was unable to follow through on the landing and received a concussion and cuts to his face when he hit the bike's handle bars.

A doctor on call at the hospital was able to treat and release the rider the same evening although the VanNorden did not perform during the remainder of the weekend.

The show continued after the accident and large crowds attended the popular event on Saturday and Sunday.
