This month the church at St.Bernard will again be filled with music as Musique Saint Bernard performers take place.
The fall series begins with Nova Scotia's Blue Engine String Quartet.
The quartet players - members of Symphony Nova Scotia- have expanded their
horizons from classical roots to perform innovative works that draw a
wide-ranging audience to some of the East Coast’s chamber
music programs. The quartet has been awarded artistic grants from both
the Canada Council for the Arts and the Nova Scotia Arts Council. The Blue
Engine String Quartet is frequently broadcast on CBC Radio and has also been
featured on CBC Television, as well as being artists in residence for the
St Cecilia concert series and performing in many venues around the
Maritimes. Among the composers chosen for their concert on Sept. 14 are
Ravel, Debussy and the Chevalier de St Georges.
On Sept. 21 the Atlantic Sinfonia,
based in Saint John, performs. This small orchestra, comprised of 14 members
selected from among the classical musicians of New Brunswick and Nova
Scotia perform in 18th century manner, standing, and with no conductor.
The program includes traditional works and crowd favourites.
