‘Over the top’ rally draws thousands to Digby
By Karla Kelly
Digby's Wharf Rat Rally appears to have gone over the top for a total number of bikes and bikers attending the fourth annual biker weekend.
Water Street and part of Montague Row was closed Saturday and Sunday as bikers poured in from all across Canada and the United States to be a part of Atlantic Canada's largest motorcycle rally.

Preliminary estimates of the number of bikes ranged from 10,000 to 16,000.

An action-packed weekend kept bikers and spectators alike entertained from one end of Digby to the other. Included in the celebrity lineup were world-renowned bike builders, jet ski, motorcycle and motocross stunt performers, demo rides, concerts and games.

The Wharf Rat Rally committee expressed its thanks to the town, municipality, sponsors and volunteers for their efforts and support in helping to make this year's rally a great success.

I am one of the non bike owning seniors ( been there done that )who wandered Digby from morning to night and heard nothing but praise from everyone who attended which should be passed on to the committy and town for the way things were handled.
I also wonder why the media shunns us, perhaps not enough political mucky mucks to suck up to.
Wearing my horn helmet all day saturday gave me an oppurtunity to interact with many rally bikers from all over and everyone enjoyed themselves as I did.

The dog dressed in leather chaps and jacket sitting on the motorcycle is eight year old Tia Maria and belongs to Robert Derry from Ontario. Derry is on the right in the picture above. Tia Maria was no doubt the most photographed four legged biker at the Rally.

It was a marvelous weekend,so many visitors,so many people and so many having fun...but where are all the other media ? you know the ones who are always reporting the " negative " things about Digby. They seem to cover all the other events in N.S. but never show up in Digby for this big rally.

The wharf rat rally committee should be proud for what they have done for the town of Digby
