Windsor’s Deputy Mayor Andy Kirk has made it official. He will not step into the ring for the upcoming municipal elections.
Kirk said he is leaving politics primarily due to health reasons. Although his health condition is a minor issue, he will no longer be able to commit the time to council he feels is necessary.
“It's not anything serious or life-threatening,” he said, “but I will need to have more flexibility, which is difficult when you are a member of council and others are counting on you.”
The former school principal and dedicated Rotarian has spent two terms as Deputy Mayor of Windsor and says he will miss that position tremendously. “I've very much enjoyed my role on council,” he said. “If I felt I could continue, I would.”
Kirk said it will be difficult to step away just as the town is on the cusp of some very exciting developments. “We've certainly had some high points and there is a lot of good stuff happening right now.”
He added, “I've enjoyed working with the town, the councillors and the citizens. It has been a great experience.”
