Canning firefighters responded to the scene of a fatal single-vehicle crash in Woodside early Friday morning.

Deputy Chief Scott Cruickshank said the crash occurred near the intersection of the Black Hole Road and Woodside Road in Woodside. There was a fatality involved and the RCMP is investigating the matter.

RCMP Corporal Larry Emery said EHS paramedics pronounced a 23-year-old man dead at the scene. He said the man, from the local area, was apparently driving down from the direction of the North Mountain and lost control of the vehicle near the intersection and crossed from one side of the road to the other, rolling over multiple times. The man was ejected from the vehicle.

Emery said it appears as though speed and the fact the victim wasn’t wearing a seatbelt were contributing factors in the incident.
