Canadian students can follow their dreams of being a sports reporter by writing short features or news about the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Summer Games being held from Sept. 6-17.
The national contest is run by the Canadian Paralympic Committee and writers of the top three entries will get to meet and interview a Paralympic athlete who competed in Beijing. The paralympian will also speak to the class or school of the winning reporter about his or her experiences in Beijing.
Articles should be written from a personal perspective and will be posted on the website of the CPC’s online schools program called It’s the Real Deal, and published in the Paralympic Insider e-newsletter that is distributed to over 2,000 subscribers.
The free contest is open to students in grades 4 to 8, but entries must come from students enrolled in a recognized Canadian school.
“The Junior Reporters program will help students across the country get into the Paralympic spirit,” said Debbie Low who is chef de mission of the Canadian team.
“Paralympic sport is about sheer athletic determination and skill. We’re looking forward to being inspired by Canada’s elite-level athletes with a physical disability as they compete at the upcoming Paralympic Games.”
Entries must be received no later than Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. AT, and can be emailed to education@paralympic.ca or mailed to Junior Reporters, Canadian Paralympic Committee, 85 Albert Street, Suite 1401, Ottawa, Ont., K1P 6A4.
