The village of New Minas has been celebrating the 40th anniversary of the community’s incorporation and the next event on the list is a re-enactment of the first village commission meeting.
Village commissioner Maynard Stevens, chairman of the anniversary committee, says that on Monday, Sept. 8 some history will be re-examined prior to the regular commission meeting.
The re-enactment will take place at 7 p.m. and all interested residents are invited to attend at the civic centre.
Stevens adds that 14 of the businesses that were in operation in 1968 will be recognized as well.
“We are still working on the details,” he noted. Stevens expects three current commissioners will take part in the re-enactment.
Members of the anniversary committee also include: recreation director Vince Forrestall; village commissioner Dale Pineo,; service group representative Holly Thompson; and business representative Greg Whynot.
New Minas is known as the soccer capital of Atlantic Canada and the shopping capital of the Valley, with over 300 commercial outlets. Its motto is A Good Place to Live.
