Musical evening

Aug 27

There will be an evening of music on Aug. 27 at Club Acadian, in S. A. R. From 6:30 to 7 p.m. there will be music from Delbert Bourque’s new CD. From 7 to 10 p.m. there will be live music with his friends, Gary Greene, Melvin Cottreau, Norman D’entremont, Paul Moulaison, Herbie Leblanc, and special guest, Gordon Muise from Massachusetts. Free admission.

Daily Bible vacation school

Aug. 25-29

SonWorld adventure park daily vacation Bible school (games, crafts, songs, snacks, skits and Bible stories) at Temple Baptist Church, 5 Bond St. Aug. 25-29. 9 :30-11:30. Registration each day at 9 a.m. For children 4-12. Info : 902-742-1774.

Spa weekend

Sept. 5-7

A spa weekend for women will be held at Camp Peniel, Sept. 5-7. Speaker is Ruthie Hamilton. Cost is $65 early registration, $75 late. Registration forms at churches, the Truth and The Life Christian Bookstore or through Camp Peniel (902-649-2471).

Fundraising supper

Sept. 8

The Yarmouth Prostate Cancer Support Group will be holding a pot luck supper fundraiser at the Lion Club hall on Parade Street on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. Info: 902-742-7367 or 902-742-3401.

Sept. 9

The annual general meeting of the YACRO Foundation will be held at the YACRO annex, 10 Thurston St., Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Information fair

Sept. 13-14

The second annual St. Ambrose Church information fair will take place on Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14 following each Mass in the basement of St. Ambrose Church (Jubilee Room). Display tables will be set up with information regarding the various ministries and programs available in the St Ambrose Parish. Refreshments will be available.

Dog jog

Sept. 13

The 15th annual SPCA dog jog fundraiser will be held at Beacon Park on Saturday, Sept. 13. (Rain date: Sept. 20.) Info at 902-742-9767. Pledge sheets at the SPCA, Ellis Print and at the Parade Street Animal Hospital.

Concert

Sept. 15

Soprano Sally Dibblee and pianist Robert Kortgaard will be performing on Monday, Sept. 15 at the Yarmouth County Museum, 7:30 p.m. presented by Hear!Here! in Yarmouth, a newly formed committee comprising local music lovers who believe people in southwestern Nova Scotia shouldn’t have to travel to enjoy classical musicians in performance. Tickets ($25) for the performance are available at Hands on Crafts and the Tri-County Womens Centre, or by calling Joan Semple, 902-742-8765 or Belle Hatfield, 902-742-3685.

Meeting

Sept. 23

The first quarterly meeting for 2008/2009 for the Kespu’kwitk Métis Council of Yarmouth and District will be held Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Ecole Par En Bas cafeteria.

Exhibit

Pairings, an exhibit by the Yarmouth Art Society with the Write Away writers' group, will be at the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives until Sept. 14.

Art show

Scenes From History - A retrospective show of paintings by artist Bill Crowell is at the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives through the summer.

Terrific Tuesday

Ongoing

Terrific Tuesdays are held very Tuesday afternoon from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for grades primary to five at Yarmouth Wesleyan Church. Free. Themes such as Fear Factor, Wet-n-Wild. For more information call 902-742-7323.

Hall of fame opened

The Sports Hall of Fame, in its new location at 435 Main St., is now opened from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. And the sports calendar is on sale at the hall of fame, City Drug and Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave. You can also pick up hall of fame nomination forms at the same locations. Deadline is Sept. 30.

Farmers’ market

Saturdays

Every Saturday there is a Farmers’ Market at the Canadian Tire parking lot on Starrs Road from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Veterans Association

Legion events

The Yarmouth branch of the Royal Canadian Legion has the following events ongoing: Thursdays, 7:30-11, open mic; Saturdays, 9-12:30, dance; Sundays, 7 to 10 p.m., bingo; Mondays,, 7:30-10:30, mixed darts. For members and guests. Info: 902-742-7788.

Support group

Tuesdays

The Baby and Me peer support group meets Tuesday mornings, 10 - 11:30, at Yarmouth Superstore’s community room. All infants with their parents and/or grandparents, as well as pregnant women, are welcome. Peer breastfeeding support is also available. Further info: 902-742-7141.
