Pair arrested following search for firearms
A 27-year-old Yarmouth man and a 30-year-old woman are facing charges in relation to various firearms and drug offences following the execution of a search warrant at a town residence the evening of Aug. 21.
As of the Vanguard’s press deadline, the man was being held in custody while the woman had been released and is due to appear in provincial court at a later date.
Last Thursday evening members of the RCMP town and rural detachments, the town RCMP’s general investigations section, the RCMP explosives disposal unit and the police dog services executed the search warrant at an undisclosed residence.
Constable Bill Balfour says the RCMP executed the warrant because they were searching for firearms, he says this wasn’t a warrant executed under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Asked why the explosives disposal unit was on site, he said it was a precaution because there had been an indication that there might be explosive devices on the scene.
No names were released at the time the arrests because the charges had yet to be formally filed with the court. The RCMP have not disclosed information on what their search yielded.
