Jailed for probation breach

The court sentenced a Kentville man to a jail term for breaching a probation condition.

Roy Douglas Moore, 44, pleaded guilty to the offense in Kentville provincial court Thursday, Aug. 14.

Judge Claudine MacDonald sentenced Moore to 15 days in custody for the breach.

Moore committed the breach in Kentville from April 18 to June 9 when he failed to report to Corrections officials as ordered.

Telecommunications service fraud

John Alexander VanOostrum, 35, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty Aug. 13 to fraudulently obtaining telecommunications service from a cable company.

Judge MacDonald suspended sentencing on VanOostrum for the conviction and imposed a term of six months’ reporting probation on him. She also ordered him to pay $405 in restitution within four months.

VanOostrum committed the fraud in Coldbrook between Sept. 20 and 26, 2007.

Drove while license suspended

Judge MacDonald found Centreville resident Bryan Keith Palmer, 50, guilty Aug. 13 of driving while his license was suspended, contrary to the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicles Act (MVA).

The judge fined Palmer $500 plus a $75 victim surcharge. Palmer committed the offense in New Minas Feb. 9.

Granted a conditional discharge

Judge MacDonald granted a conditional discharge Aug. 13 to Hants Border resident Rosaline Crowell, 48, on an assault charge.

The discharge is pending six months’ reporting probation, a condition of which is for Crowell to take any recommended assessment, counselling or treatment.

The charge resulted from an incident in Hants Border Nov. 12, 2007. Crowell pleaded guilty to the charge April 30.
