The lumberjacks are chopping at the bit to return to Liverpool Sept. 6-7 at The Liverpool Lumberjack Round-Up in Privateer Park.
Last year, The Great Canadian Lumberjack Show and Challenge, also organized by Greenfield residents, Suzanne and Moyal Conrad Jr., was held in Liverpool.

Suzanne Conrad says they were prompted by the success of the event to create this new show and challenge.

In addition, she says, “This is also what my husband and son enjoy. We’ve always liked having the competition in Greenfield so since that was let go we thought we’d just bring it back.”

Moyal Conrad is continuing his annual winning ways this year. He won the overall lumberjack title during The Great Canadian Lumberjack Show and Challenge Aug. 9-10 in Campbell River, British Columbia. Their 15-year-old son, Brandon won The Canadian Logger Sports Association (Can-Log) national intermediate 100 cc powersaw championship, also held in Campbell River that weekend.

For the Liverpool show, Suzanne Conrad says, “We’ve invited people from across Canada. Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, and New England. We’ve invited our friends from the West as well but we don’t know if they’re going to make it. There’s a competition out there that conflicts with this one.”

The events include the Axe Throw, Hot Saw, Underhand Block Chop, Stock Saw, Obstacle Pole Bucking, and Springboard Chop, to name just a few examples.

She also promises with a laugh, “It’s not going to rain this year.” About 2,000 spectators attended last year’s event despite the hard down pour on Saturday.

The Round-Up is raising money this year for the Children’s Wish Foundation. Last year, Log A Load For Kids, a charitable organization, raised about $8,000 for the IWK Hospital in Halifax.

The event will also include food booths and displays of equipment from the sponsors.

Conrad says “most” of last year’s volunteers are returning this year but more are always needed. She can be contacted at 685-2376. She hopes it will become an annual event.
