All positive at Queens General Hospital
Queens General Hospital’s Emergency Room is in no danger of closing due to registered nursing shortages in the South Shore Health District.
Eight p.m. to 8 a.m. emergency room services at Fishermen’s Memorial in Lunenburg will probably remain closed overnights until at least Dec. because South Shore Health is having difficulty recruiting Registered Nurses.

Media reports stated this is an issue at all three South Shore hospital, including Queens General.

Spokesperson Theresa Hawkesworth agreed recruiting registered nurses is an ongoing process but that Queens General is functioning as well as ever.

“We have not had the same types of challenges at Queens General we have had at Fishermen’s Memorial in terms of any of the departments, including the E.R.”

She says Queens could use two or three registered nurses at the moment.
