Fund supports elite athletes

Kenley says “the Digby County Elite Athlete Fund” was set up eight years ago to support local athletes who are among the top ranked provincially in their sports.

“We started out with $500—donated from my East Coast Golf Classic teammates and myself.” Since then Kenley’s business, the Fundy Complex has continued to donate to the fund on an annual basis. “There’s now $7-8,000 available,” he says.

He adds that support has been provided to talented young hockey players over the years, but he is not sure if coaches and athletes in other sports are aware the money is there.

Kenley says he would like to set up a board of directors—and he would like to extend an invitation to representatives from various sports to join the board. He says the board will meet whenever an application for funding is being considered; all applications for funds will be considered on an individual basis.
