The Town of Digby was a beehive of activity for Scallop Days and the waterfront was rocking Saturday night as MainStream Wrestling Entertainment (MSW) presented the Scallop Days Steel Cage Showdown at the marina.

The main-event match-up was scheduled to feature Digby’s own “X-Ray” Kyle Kruze defending his Atlantic Canadian championship against “Kowboy” Mike Hughes but Hughes was unable to appear.

Following the opening contest, ring announcer “Captain” Kirk introduced Kruze to a rousing ovation from the fans. “The Iron Tiger” Mike Fraser, travelling all the way from China, accompanied Kruze to the ring.

Kruze told the fans that Hughes would be unable to appear in Digby and that the steel cage main event would not happen as scheduled. “Captain” Kirk asked Kruze what would take the place of the scheduled main event. Kruze said the MSW office was addressing the situation.

Kruze introduced the fans to Fraser, who stood in the ring with his nunchucks. The fans were shocked when Kruze turned his back and an unprovoked attack from Fraser ensued, whacking Kruze in the back with the nunchucks. After recovering from the blow, the five-time Atlantic Canadian champion challenged Fraser to take Hughes’ place in the cage match. The challenge was accepted.

The cage match featured several high-flying, high-risk moves, including an attempted moonsault from the top of the structure by Fraser and Kruze executing a suplex on Fraser from the top of the cage. The end came when the two wrestlers were fighting at the top of the structure, with Fraser on the outside and Kruze on the inside of the cage. Kruze managed to tie Fraser’s hair to the structure. As Fraser dangled by his hair, Kruze escaped the cage through the door for the win and a successful title defense.

In other action, Johnny “Scotia” Colon vanquished Killer Bee. “Commercial Free” Sexton Phoenix pinned Tristan Strife. Alexander Saint defeated “Hard Nosed” Haggerty after the interference of Strife backfired. Strife and Haggerty attacked Saint but Phoenix ran in to make the save and challenged Strife and Haggerty to a tag-team match later on the card.

Strife and Haggerty won the tag-team challenge after Phoenix turned on his partner, Saint, for no apparent reason. Phoenix went on to attack Saint unmercifully after the final bell.

MSW’s next show in our region is coming up at the Windsor War Memorial Community Centre on Friday night, Aug. 29.
