Former councillor offers for Windsor mayoralty

Former town councillor Paul Beazley has announced he would be a candidate for the Windsor mayoralty this fall.

Municipal elections take place across the province Saturday, Oct. 18.

Mayor Anna Allen currently holds the position.

Beazley said in an Aug. 7 news release, “when I stepped down as a councillor in 2004 for family and business reasons, I knew I would eventually like to return to municipal politics in Windsor at some point in time.”

That point in time is now, and Beazley has his sights set on the top job, as mayor for the town he grew up in, and has lived most of his life.

Beazley said “…I’ve received a tremendous amount of encouragement from residents and business owners alike.” While he has been away from the council chambers for the past four years, he has remained an active member of the community as secretary and past-president of the Rotary Club of Windsor, director and two years as chairman of the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society Banquet Committee, and director and past-president of the Pisiquid Canoe Club.

As a self-employed businessman and long-time resident, Beazley would bring his previous town council experience, business back-ground, and life-time appreciation of the unique and storied history of the “Little Town of Big Firsts” to the mayor’s chair. Having grown up in Windsor, Paul earned a degree in Business Administration at Acadia University in 1984, before moving on to Dalhousie University where he obtained his Master of Business Administration in 1989. Upon graduation from Dalhousie, he accepted a position with the Bank of Nova Scotia in Halifax as a commercial banking officer, moving on to become an analyst, and then as a credit administrator.

In 1999, he made a career change and returned to Windsor to take over a long-time family business, which he and his wife continued to operate until 2005. Beazley went on to achieve the designation of Canadian residential appraiser from the Appraisal Institute of Canada in 2007 and now works as a self-employed real estate appraiser in the Windsor area. Paul and his wife Barb have three daughters, two of whom attend university, and the youngest is entering Grade 10.
