Lightening strikes twice in Vaughan

Lightning can strike twice, at least in a community, and with devastating effect.

The Windsor Volunteer Fire Department responded to two fire calls in different areas of Vaughan Monday, Aug.4. Lightening strikes were later determined as the probable cause in both cases.

Lightening struck two hunting cabins, and they caught fire as a result. The first cabin, which was located on Pioneer Drive, went ablaze at about 2:30 p.m., and the second, at Forest Heights Road, caught fire around 7:45 p.m.

Deputy Chief Wayne Swinimer said that after extinguishing the second fire, the department notified the RCMP. And the Fire Marshal’s Office was also brought in to figure out the fire cause.

“Investigations determined the probable causes of the fires were lightening strikes,” Swinimer noted.

During both incidents, heavy rains with thunder and lightning were reported in the area.
