Young Digby golfer wins Atlantic division
Myles Creighton, 12, of Digby, easily won the boys’ 13-and-under title at the MJT-CPGA Atlantic junior championship Monday and Tuesday at the Links at Penn Hills in Shubenacadie.
Creighton, whose rounds of 83 and 96 gave him a 179 total, won despite thundershowers during the tournament.
He said his key to victory was “avoiding lightning.”
Runners-up were Jarred Lowe, 11, of Bridgewater, with 226, and Hayden West of Milford Station, with a total of 237.
There were four division titles at stake during the tournament.
Sam Holland, 17, of Kentville, fired 71-78 (149) to take the overall low score for the field as well as the Atlantic Junior boys’ 17 and up trophy.
The boys’ 14-16 champion was Jamie Sweet, 15, of Dartmouth, who shot back-to-back rounds of 80.
Olivia Thomas, 17, of Windsor Junction, shot a great opening round of 78 en route to her 173 total score, beating Kaitlyn Dawson, 16, of Amherst and claiming the Atlantic Junior Girls title.
