The Region of Queens ended the fiscal year on a high note.
Robert Stafford gave the auditor’s report to councilors on July 21, for the financial statement ending on March 31, 2008.
Stafford said that the Region of Queens was better of than most municipal units.
The surplus of $198,118 was better then the Region had hoped. Putting the Brooklyn Sewer Project on hold was part of the budget surplus. However most of it was in areas being over budgeted slightly.
Mayor John Leefe said that he was “very pleased with the auditor’s report”. He said that having a surplus leaves a few more options open for the future.
The Region received approximately $16.6 million in revenue, with $11.1 million coming from taxes. Expenditures totaled around 16.4 million.
