Y.F.D. Firefighters Report Water Street Fire
On Saturday, July 19th, Firefighters working the waterfront and Yarmouth harbour observed smoke coming from a warehouse located at 83 Water Street. Portable radio in use called it to the fire station which was followed up by many 911 calls from cell phones.
The 7:02 P.M. page brought out Engines 4 & 1 along with units 26, 27 and 14. A 4” feed line was stretched from a Water Street hydrant to Engine 4 on Hawthorne Street with several 1-1/2 “ lines to the blaze at the rear of the wooden building. Fire damage was minimal and was soon knocked down as firefighters were able to enter very quickly. With a large crowd and parked cars on Water Street the R.C.M.P. did an excellent job in clearing the area.
