Website launched for local fire departments
Four local fire departments will be featured on a new website specifically built for them, containing latest news, weather, information on fire and fire safety and more.

“What we’ve done is structured the website so you’ve got a general overview of all things fire,” said webmaster, Bernard Swain, “so that if you’re a community member and you want to know anything to do with safety and fire it will be there.”

The site will feature the Mill Village, Port Medway, Charleston and Greenfield Fire Departments.

“One of the reasons, (for building the website) is the fire department is funded partially from tax dollars, so you’ve got a group of people here, men and women who volunteer a lot of their time,” explained Swain. “They are also expected to fundraise.”

Up until now, community fire departments have advertised fundraisers and events through posters and word of mouth.

Information about upcoming fundraisers will be posted on the website.

“Even though it’s a long way from finished, it’s huge, so we thought now is the time to tell people there’s a resource here,” added Swain.

He noted an interesting page on the site is all about fire alarms.

Mill Village Fire Department Chief, Don Whynot said, “there’s a lot of really valuable information on there.”

They ask that visitors be sure to leave feedback about the website.
