Clare holding its Acadian festival
The 53rd Festival acadien de Clare, the oldest Acadian festival, begin its celebrations this weekend.
Saturday at 3 p.m., the festival opens at Major's Point in Belliveau’s Cove with a mass and the commemoration of the arrival of Clare's founding family. The rain location is Saint Mary's Church at Church Point.

An outdoor concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Clare Social Club in Little Brook.

Sunday has the Grand Street Parade from the Clare Social Club to Université Sainte-Anne at Church Point. The parade begins at 1:30 and the road will be closed at 1 p.m.

The crowd is expected to follow the parade to the university where a bazaar opens at 10 a.m., with more than 40 kiosks for artists and artisans from the region. A lumberjack competition and live music are also part of the day.

The festival ends Aug. 15.
