YFD to receive new pumper



Yarmouth Town Council approved the purchase of a new pumper, at the July 10 meeting. A triple combination 1050 g.p.m. engine will cost just over $390,000, with a delivery date of six to seven months. The manufacturer is Pierce Manufacturing Inc.



House Fire



A fire at 12:29 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, on the Tower Road, Hebron, gutted the one-storey bungalow style home. Engine #4 reported heavy smoke on arrival with fire breaking through in a very short time. A second page was requested by platoon chief Steve Jeffery for a second tanker and manpower. The family, home at the time, was able to escape with no injuries.

YFD Ladderathon



Members of the Yarmouth Fire Department spent about 50 hours atop the aerial ladder last week in aid of Muscular Dystrophy. Donations were accepted by members on the ground. As soon as a total is arrived at, we will be able to report it.



Maritime Fire Chiefs’ Convention



The 94th annual conference held in Lunenburg was determined a success. Platoon chief Lynn Seeley represented the local department along with a number of local chiefs. Several keynote speakers from New Jersey, Ohio and New York City spoke on leadership in the fire service, line of duty deaths and their prevention, fire apparatus specifications for future purchases, preventable motor vehicle accidents and close calls.

July 17, 1893 –A small shed adjacent to the skating rink on Pleasant Street was set on fire. Before firefighters could reach the spot a dwelling house was also consumed. The building was formerly the barn belonging to the Congregational Parsonage, but was converted into a cottage. Time 2 a.m. Insurance $500.
