The Municipality of Clare once again providing $20,000 for Clare festival
Support goes to parade
The 53rd Festival acadien de Clare, the oldest Acadian festival, investing will be receiving $20,000 from the Municipality of Clare. The municipality has made a similar donation for the past three years.
The principal activity that the Municipality of Clare sponsors is the parade, which will take place on Sunday, July 27. The floats will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the Clare Social Club in Little Brook and will arrive at the Université Sainte-Anne campus in Church Point. The parade follows the Main Road for approximately three kms and attracts a huge crowd with nearly all Clare households meet to celebrate their culture.
Among the floats are boats, cars, trucks, wagons, bicycles, dancers, marching bands and representatives of Acadie and the community.
Trophies are awarded to the best floats in the following categories: individual, commercial, organization and overall winner. This year’s theme continues to be “Affichons nos couleurs!” (Let’s display our colours!) so blue, white, red and yellow must be featured. The road will be closed at noon from Patrice Road to the Connector Road to give the crowd a chance to settle in. So come early for your chance to celebrate!
“The parade has not stopped growing in the past three years especially, so we are expecting an extraordinary parade for 2008! We always depend on the community’s support, so we would like to point out the participation of the Acadians who guarantee the success of this event.” - Janine Saulnier, parade committee president said.
Those wishing to participate in the parade should register now by calling 902-769-0832.
The festival runs from July 26t– Aug. 15.
