Wallace sword replica comes to Annapolis Royal
Weapon represents Scotland's freedom
Annapolis County councillor and chair of the Heritage Advisory Committee, Marilyn Wilkins, warden Peter Newton, and provost Fergus Wood of Stirling, Scotland, clasped the sword that is an exact replica of the one carried by Scottish hero William Wallace. Provost Wood, joined by a deligation from Stirling, Scotland, brought the sword to Annapolis Royal for the Canada Day celebrations, July 1. The sword, measuring five feet, six inches and weighing six and a half pounds, represents Scotland’s freedom, as the warrior lead the country to independence from British rule in the 14th century. The delegation’s visit was also an opportunity to strengthen the ties between the “old” Scotland and the “new” Scotland in terms of tourism, commerce and investment.
