There was certainly no shortage of offense when the Kentville Wildcats and Truro Bearcats met in a Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League doubleheader July 6 in Truro.
The teams split the two games, each winning in a fairly lopsided fashion. Truro won the opener 13-4 and Kentville came back to easily win the second 18-4.
In the first game, Jason Hoyt had two home runs and Joe MacPherson added a round-tripper of his own. J. P. Wood singled and doubled for Truro. For the Wildcats, Kevin Benjamin doubled and Nick Hill added a pair of singles.
Ian and Mike Lockhart led the Wildcats to the win in the second game, called after seven innings under the NSSBL 10-run “mercy rule.” Ian homered and doubled, while Mike homered and added two singles.
The results leave Kentville with a 9-10 record on the season, good for third place in the standings. Following play July 6, Dartmouth was first at 12-5, Halifax second at 9-8, Kentville third at 9-10, Truro fourth at 7-9 and Sydney fifth at 4-14.
This weekend, the second round of interprovincial play against New Brunswick teams takes centre stage. Kentville is scheduled to host the Fredericton Royals at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, then entertain the Saint John Alpines at 7:30 p.m.
