Music With Friends to raise the flag for high school

The public is invited to an afternoon of music with Music With Friends at the Yarmouth County Museum, 22 Collins St., on Friday, July 11.

The benefit concert is part of the Rock Around the Clock Reunion (July 10-13) and will feature local pianists Michael Morris, Rioko Miné-Goldring and Belle Hatfield, and summer resident and YCMHS reunion alumnus Gretchen Dane Burdick. The program includes works by Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy, Franz Liszt, and Sergei Rachmaninoff and Fanny Mendelssohn and will be performed on the Yamaha concert grand piano that was purchased for the community by the Yarmouth Music Society last year. Also participating is the Yarmouth recorder ensemble, The Accidental Consort.

Music With Friends was conceived as one way that reunion participants and others could give something back to their home town. Admission to the concerts will be by donation. Proceeds will go towards purchase and installation of a new flagpole for the Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School, in commemoration of the reunion. Donations will also be accepted at other events throughout the reunion weekend.

The concert takes place at 1 p.m. and is being repeated at 3 p.m., as seating capacity is limited. The performances are open not only to reunion participants but also to the general public.
