Look for something to happen in the Yarmouth area with Nova Scotia’s Come to life initiative later this year, says a spokesperson for the program.

Billed as a new brand to help identify Nova Scotia in other parts of Canada as well as abroad, Come to life was officially launched in early 2005.
The idea is to promote the province as a great place to live and do business. Officials hope the initiative will help bring more investment to Nova Scotia and give the province better opportunities with regard to trade and economic development.

Charter membership in Come to life was up to 165 following a “charter day” event in Truro in early June. A similar activity is scheduled for July 3 in Halifax.

Little has happened so far in the Yarmouth area with Come to life, but something is in the works for this end of the province.

“Right now we are in the very early planning stages of an event for Yarmouth,” said Stacey Jones-Oxner, adviser with the Come to life project.

She could offer no details at this point, she said, “but we’ve been chatting with some folks down there in the business community and we’re determined to make it happen for Yarmouth this fall.”

She has been in touch with people from the South West Shore Development Authority and the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce about the Come to life initiative.

She referred in particular to a recent gathering in Antigonish of chamber of commerce reps from throughout the province.

“It was great to talk to all the chambers from across Nova Scotia and really inform them about what we’re trying to do and how, working together, we can move the province forward,” she said.

She feels the Come to life project has made significant strides over the last year-and-a-half or so.

“We’ve made some incredible progress and the business community has really embraced Nova Scotia Come to life,” she said. “They really understand what we’re trying to accomplish and they want to be a part of it.”

As for what’s in store for Yarmouth, she noted again that it’s “very early” to talk about it, but she indicated that something definitely is on the way.

“We’re going to make it happen,” she said.
