White Rock news
by Pam Schofield (pamschofield@auracom.com)
Hello, everyone; sorry I missed you last week. It was a busy week with soccer on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Our family was away for a weekend trip to Moncton, which was the first time our kids had been out of the province. Other than the long drive, they had fun.
It still amazes me how fast people drive. No matter what the speed limit is, they drive faster.
I noticed that it looks like a new house is going to be built across from Brian Levy’s. It looks like a very nice location. I have also noticed that the old Smith place just up from Andy Gillis’s is vacant. It looks like we will be having some new community members to welcome this summer.
The former Eddie Hancock place has been sold and Ken and Zelma Long have a realtor sign on their home on White Rock/Canaan road. There are definitely lots of changes going on.
Brad and Glenda Schofield’s daughter Sarah is home with her daughter to visit for a couple of weeks, as well as Tim Holt. I hope they have a nice visit.
There will be a chicken BBQ July 5 at the Black River Hall starting at 11:30 a.m. Hope to see you there.
Happy birthday to Jacob Long, who celebrated June 29 and Cameron Hoyt, who celebrated June 30. Happy birthday to Zelma Long, who will celebrate July 2 and Debbie Schofield, who will celebrate July 6.
Also, I believe that Kim Sheffield celebrated her birthday June 4; at least that’s what a certain little someone told me. Happy birthday.
Congratulations to Adam Schofield and his betrothed, Natasha, on their wedding. I am not sure of the date, but we wish you and your family all the best. For anyone that is celebrating a special day, best wishes from our communities.
The card parties at the Black River Community Hall continue to be a great success. For the night of June 17, there were 12 tables. I think that might be a record high.
Mary Coldwell won women’s second while Jean Norman won women’s first. Helen Schofield won the women’s low.
John Griffith took the men’s second prize while Bruce Long won men’s first. William Goler won the men’s low. The 50/50 went to Carthel Illsley, the traveler went to Don Woodworth and Zelma Long won the door prize.
The card party for June 24 had 10 tables in attendance. The women’s second prize went to Judy Levy while Pat Bezanson won women’s first and Deanna Schofield won the women’s low prize.
Laurie Garby won the men’s second while Arnold Forsythe won the men’s first prize. Grant Bezanson won the men’s low. Reta Lloyd won the 50/50, Zelma Long won the traveler and Dick Weir won the door prize. Prizes for both weeks were donated by Ken and Zelma Long.
Thank you to all the volunteers that help make these evenings a success.
I think that is all for now. Remember: school is out for the summer, so be alert when you’re driving because the bicycles will be out in full force. Have a great week everyone and Happy Canada Day!
