Hospital foundation kicks off fundraising campaign
Again this year, the Queens General Hospital Foundation has launched its annual fund-raising campaign.

In the past year, the Foundation has committed more than $160,000 for hospital improvements. The largest expenditure that the Foundation will provide is $86,000 for an upgrade to the hospital’s diagnostic imaging (X-ray) unit. This should reduce the number of delayed assessments and referrals to South Shore Regional Hospital due to downtime or limitations of the current equipment.

“These additions to our hospital are considered to be very necessary to continue to grow the services offered at Queens General”, says Fundraising Chairman Robin Hemeon. “The donations that we receive fund these improvements and ensure that we can continue to offer the residents of Queens County more upgrades each year.”

The Foundation has also made available about $25,000 for new flooring in the Emergency Department and the Laboratory and completed renovations to the Rehabilitation Department. New bedside tables, over-bed tables, chairs and patient medication cabinets were added to each room at a cost of more than $33,000.

Since there will soon be a Cancer Screening program introduced at Queens General, the Foundation will purchase a Reverse Osmosis unit for sterilization of investigative scopes. This is a further commitment of about $12,000.

Hemeon points out that “at some time in our lives, most residents have experienced the excellent care that is provided at Queens General. Your generous donations will help add to this care in years to come”
