Members of the family of David Johnson of Willowbank Farms, Port Williams, unveil the plaque dedicating the village's Fundy Interpretative Site to his memory Sat. June 14 during Port Williams Days. Johnson, who died in 1992, was a keen promoter of agriculture in the area and had first proposed the idea of an interpretative site in a letter to the Village Commission in 1989.

Port Williams Days were great this year! The weekend started with the Lions Club Mock Jail on Friday. Then hundreds of people lined the bridge and wharf areas to view the excellent fireworks that night.
An added bonus was not spending more time driving and parking for the fireworks than one did watching them. It would be great if a way could be found to have them again next year.
Buyers were out early looking for good deals during the Village-Wide Yard Sale. The weather cooperated and hundreds of people were walking and driving along the streets of the village.
The library was one of the over 50 yard sale locations. It held, as part of its 50th anniversary celebration, a used book sale. The Sunday School of the St. John’s Anglican Church had a very successful yard sale and children’s fun time and the fire department’s chicken barbecue was as popular and tasty as ever.
Many spectators lined Main St. to see the Children’s Parade make its way to the Community Centre. The PWVFD fire trucks bracketed the parade, which had ponies, lots of kids and a number of floats.
These included the Lost Blossom sailing ship, the Rand family carousel and one celebrating the 140th anniversary of the Baptist church. Princess Port Williams Katelyn Pulisfer and child attendant Sophia Lazaric had royal company on their float as Queen Annapolisa Amanda Walker and four princesses rode along.
The Size Small theme this year was the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, which had children, letters and coconut trees bobbing down the street.
The day wasn’t over yet for our princess as she was at the door of the community supper. It featured generous helpings of baked beans and potato scallop, ham, rolls and lots of delicious desserts.
After supper, 40-plus people gathered at our Fundy Interpretative Site by the bridge for its dedication to the memory of David Johnson of Willowbank Farms, “gentleman farmer extraordinaire”, and keen promoter of the agriculture industry in Port Williams.
Johnson first proposed the idea to the Commission in a letter in 1989 over a decade before it was actually developed. Village Commission chair Lewis Benedict began the ceremony, but turned it over to Budd Miller, who was Village Commission chair at the time. Miller shared memories of Johnson before the unveiling of the plaque by Johnson’s wife Liz, surrounded by her family.
