First lobball tournament raises $1,300
The first annual Mae Whynot and Myrtle Boudreau Memorial mixed lobball tournament raised $1,300 for the Liverpool Ladies softball league.

The tournament was in memory of Whynot and Boudreau because “they were both avid volunteers and participants in the ladies league,” said ladies softball league president, Ella Whalen.

The two women were best friends, she added.

On June 14 – 15, seven teams took to the fields in Liverpool.

The teams were local except for the Bridgewater Freaks, who placed first in the tournament, winning $450.

Marcia and Mike Ringer’s team came in second, winning $200.

“It was a good turnout,” said Whalen, “our major sponsor of the tournament was Vicki Conrad our MLA for Queens.”

Michelle Richards and Stacy Smith helped put on the tournament as well, she said.

Head umpire, Ramey Boudreau who is the son of Myrtle was very appreciative of the tournament as well as other family members, said Whalen.

Dubbing the tournament as a “big success,” money raised will help cover league costs, she said.

They plan to make this an annual event.
