Review of Tri-County funding needed—Belliveau
Sterling Belliveau, the NDP MLA for Shelburne, wants Education Minister Karen Casey to review funding being provided Tri-County Regional School Board.
Belliveau and NDP education critic Percy Paris met with the school board Tuesday and said the meeting prompted his call for immediate assistance to ease funding difficulties that the board is facing.
“The Tri-County school board’s budget allocation for 2008 just wasn’t enough,” Belliveau said in a news release today. “The board has had to cut 24 teaching positions and 18 board office jobs, including psychologists, library and resource support.”
He said the money allotted by the province is having a major impact on delivery of education for the region.
