Bail hearing being held Monday for man charged following standoff
A show cause hearing will be held in provincial court in Yarmouth on Monday to determine whether a Yarmouth County man charged following a standoff in Tusket earlier this month can be released from custody while his case is before the court.

Darren John Doucette, 38, has been in custody since being arrested at his residence on the John White Road in Tusket the morning of June 2. He is facing weapons charges and counts of criminal harassment, obstruction and resisting the commands of police officers.

Doucette appeared briefly in court on Tuesday where the results of a psychiatric assessment exploring the issues of fitness and criminal responsibility were provided to the court. The Crown said neither was deemed to be an issue and so the court is moving forward with a bail hearing.

There haven’t been any pleas entered to the charges before the court.

The RCMP were called to a residence in Tusket during the early morning hours of June 2. They were alerted by a 911 call, although that call was not placed by the person living in the duplex next to Doucette as was previously reported. After hours of negotiation Doucette exited the home. The RCMP used a controlled energy weapon on the man in the stun gun mode, saying this was done because to police it looked at as Doucette was concealing something and he would not follow commands to release his arm.

He was found not to have been concealing anything but the weapons charges he is facing do make reference to a rifle he is alleged to have had while inside the residence.
