MONDAY UPDATE: Battle ends at two-day brush fire
Beating down a persistent brush fire and beating off wood ticks kept Digby’s volunteer firefighters busy on the Father’s Day weekend.
An alarm for the fire in the Bloomsfield-area woods was sounded Saturday about 9 a.m., and firefighters—including Natural Resources personnel and equipment from the Brighton-Barton department—worked until 9 p.m. knocking down the fire in a logged over area.
One estimate was that the fire covered an area about a half-mile square.
Firefighters returned Sunday to the fire, using individual water packs as well as water pumped through a main hose from the nearby former railway bed. The former railway was used as a road by fire trucks.
Digby fire chief Robbie Morgan said Monday that Natural Resources personnel will watch the fire site this week, handling expected hot spots.
