White Rock news
by Pam Schofield (pamschofield@auracom.com)
Hello, hello, hello. The weather is improving some – according to my kids, when they’re allowed to wear shorts to school, the summer is close by.

As usual, the bugs come along with the weather. I was watching the cat try to catch a June bug the other night, with the door closed, of course.

Does everyone have their gardens planted? We have ours planted and most of everything is up already. With the price of fuel, the price of food will go up also so I think I will try to tend our garden well so we can get the most out of it that is possible.

The card party June 10 was another success with 10 tables in attendance. The women’s first prize went to Mary Coldwell and the second prize went to Hilda Allen. The gents first went to John Griffith and the second prize to Reg Pick.

Laurie Garby won the low for the men and Eva Morine the low for the women. Helen Hutt won the 50/50 and the traveler went to Clara Spinney while Audrey Keddy won the door prize.

I think maybe the hall must be a lucky spot. I don’t think I’ve reported so many wins for my Dad since I started reporting the community news. Congratulations to everyone.

Birthday wishes are going out to David Schofield, who will celebrate June 21. Happy birthday to my great nephew, Brayden Hirtle who celebrated June 12.

Happy birthday to Jim Long, who celebrated in May; Zane Long, who celebrated June 2; Andrew Livingstone, June 5; as well as Tony Schofield’s birthday June 5.

Rick Tait celebrated his birthday June 8; Harlan Spinney June 9; and Andrew Davison June 11; and I think I mentioned last week that Frank Spinney celebrated his birthday June 12.

I would also like to say a belated happy anniversary to Keith and Karen McPhail, who celebrated their 22nd anniversary June 14. Gordon and Kathy Berry celebrated June 2 and Blake and Sherry Davison celebrated June 4.

Happy 52nd anniversary to Leo and Cookie Spinney, who celebrated June 9, and Ken and Zelma Long celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary June 15.

Best wishes go out as well to those not mentioned here; have a wonderful day.

There will be a chicken BBQ July 5 at the Black River Hall starting at 11:30 a.m. Hope to see you there.

Also remember there are card parties every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., Jam Sessions once a month and the next one is June 14 at 7 p.m. There’s a games night from 7-9 p.m. June 21 and the Schoolhouse café opens June 28 and will be open every Saturday throughout the summer from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Soccer has started in numerous communities, although it’s still a little cool in the evenings. For the spectators that is; the children playing seem to be fine.

If anyone is interested in registration for hockey for your little one at home, you can contact Scott and Samantha Hamilton for more information. They are the Novice Coordinators. Their email is scott.hamilton@ns.sympatico.ca or 678-8649.

I can’t think of anything else at the moment so I’ll say goodbye for now. Maybe I will see some of you at the soccer field or at the chicken barbecue. Have a great week.

Oh, by the way; the last day of school for this year is June 27 for Gaspereau – just wanted to remind everyone. See you later.
