Kirkin' O' the Tartan
Piper Brenda MacKean-Barrs plays apart from the gathering in front of the Covenanter Church in Grand-Pre. Kilts of many colours were seen June 8 during the 12th annual Kirkin’ O’ the Tartan, a tradition where clan members bring their cloth to the church to be blessed. The celebration pays homage to a time when tartan was forbidden by the crown. Parishioners listened to a Gaelic blessing and honoured their tartans as monuments to their clans’ histories.
