Youth arts festival

June 1-22

The first Youth Visual Arts Festival will be held at the Yarmouth County Museum and Th YARC. This exhibit gives students in the arts program in the Yarmouth County area an opportunity to showcase their talents. Festival runs until June 22 .

The Leif Erickson Chapter IODE is hosting a Queen’s tea at the Yarmouth County Museum, Collins Street, Wednesday, June 11, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Genealogist Terrence Punch will be guest speaker at the annual general meeting of the Argyle Municipality Historical and Genealogical Society Thursday, June 12, 7 p.m. in the courtroom of the Tusket court house. Refreshments will be served.

Teen retreat

A “spin” teen retreat for youth and youth leaders to encourage personal spiritual growth will be held June 13-14 at Camp Peniel. Registration 6 p.m. Costs $25. Call Camp Peniel for more info.

Museum Day

June 14

The Firefighters’ Museum of N.S. will be celebrating Museum Day, June 14. There’ll be games and refreshments. Family fun. Free admission, activities are from 1 -4 p.m.

Yard/bake sale

June 14

A yard sale and bake sale will be held at Temple Baptist Church parking lot (enter off of Trinity Place or Bond Street) in Yarmouth on June 14 starting at 8 a.m. Meeting

On June 14 the annual general assembly of Kespu’kwitk Métis Council of Yarmouth and District will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Club Acadian, SAR. For more info and to RSVP call the Kespu’kwitk Métis Council office at 902-742-6591, between 9 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Book launch

June 14

On Saturday, June 14, at 2 p.m. there will be a book launch at the Yarmouth County Museum. Local author Bill Crowell will be launching his new book The Artist and The Colonel, the story of Mabel Killam Day and Frank Parker Day. He will be reading excerpts and signing books. Light refreshments will be served.

Music and rappie pie

June 14

There will be a musical fun night, rappie pie takeout and karaoke at Club Lestantue Community Centre Pinkney’s Point, Yarmouth County Saturday, June 14. Rappie pie takeout from 4:30 p.m. onwards. $5 per plate. Musical fun night, karaoke and come to the mic from 8 p.m. onwards. Donation at the door. Members and guests.

Washer tournament

June 15

VON annual meeting

June 16

The annual meeting of the community board of the Tri-County VON will take place on Monday, June 16, at 5 p.m. in the boardroom of the VON offices, 55 Starrs Rd., Yarmouth.



Women’s workshop

June 16

A free workshop dedicated to help women with to look good and feel better during and after cancer treatment with tips and techniques on how to camouflage the side effects of their treatments will be held Monday, June 16, at the Yarmouth hospital in the Pink Room, first floor from 1-3 p.m.

Picture hunt

There will be a Museum Weekend picture hunt at Le Village historique acadien, Lower West Pubnico all day Saturday, June 14. Adults and children can play together at each their skill levels. Cookies, milk and tea in the historic homes. Prizes for children. Free.

The Yarmouth Area Cancer Support Group will meet Wednesday, June 18, at the Sobey’s community room, Starrs Road. Speaker will be Cathy Blades, VP of clinical health speaking about the new district cancer centre for Yarmouth. All those with cancer and their caregivers/loved ones are invited to attend. Yard sale

June 21

The Children's Wish Foundation will be holding their annual yard sale on June 21. Anyone having donations can call 742-2126 for pick up. No clothing or stuffed animals.

Cemetery walking tour

July 7,8,9

There will be a walking tour at Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery July 7, 8 and 9 at 6:30 p.m. Admission by ticket (free) available at the Yarmouth Historical Society, 22 Collins St.

Garden sale

July 19

On Saturday, July 19, the Yarmouth County Museum’s annual garden sale takes place from 9 until 1. Used items, antiques, baked goods, plants, etc. will be available. Note: the date for this sale has been changed.





Veterans’ reunion planned

There will be a reunion of Korean War veterans, peacekeepers and veterans of all foreign wars on July 25, 26 and 27 at the Yarmouth branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. For further information telephone 902-742-9679.

Support group

Tuesdays

The Baby and Me peer support group meets Tuesday mornings, 10 - 11:30, at Yarmouth Superstore’s community room. All infants with their parents and/or grandparents, as well as pregnant women, are welcome. Peer breastfeeding support is also available. Further info: 902-742-7141.

Thursdays

Bridge and other card games are held every Thursday afternoon at the South Ohio Community Centre from 1-4 p.m. Light refreshments served. Admission $2.
